Why they won't talk about the youngest and most popular president in Africa
An in depth look at Captain Ibrahim Traore Of Burkina Faso
Alkebulanians,
Lend me your ears, (well technically your eyes)
If you listen to how mainstream media tells it, one of Time Magazine’s 2024 Most Influential People In The World, William Ruto, is the shining light of Africa. However, the embattled Kenyan president is far from the beacon the US and UK would have you believe. Sure he may be good for their aspirations on the continent, but if the Kenyan youth’s opinions are anything to go by, he isn’t good for them or Africa. Enter scene, Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
The mainstream media barely talks about him. The fact he’s the youngest president in Africa isn’t acknowledged because the West does not consider his government legitimate. He is constantly referred to as a junta leader with a regime as opposed to an administration. If you google ‘youngest president in Africa’ you get Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal at 44 who is a full six years older than Traore. Why do they do this? To delegitimize him in preparation for removal. Yes, yes, sounds cynical but the evidence is there. Actually, I’m saving that story for another article.
The enigmatic mid-30s military man took power less than two years ago and has transformed not only the fortunes of his country but the perception of what it means to be an African leader, focused on the welfare of your own people as a priority above all else. In this article, I will give you Alkebulanians a snapshot of who he is so that when his name comes up, as it surely will for years to come, you will have a solid foundation of the man’s genesis.
I will do a series of these biographies for the key players on the African political scene such as General Tiani of Niger, Assimi Goita of Mali, Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal and so forth. It is important you all know exactly who this next generation of African leaders is because not only do they need to be watched, but they need to be held accountable for the immense responsibility they have in shaping the future of the continent. Now, this is who Ibrahim Traore is, and why he has become so popular in Africa.
