When I first started researching Kongo I assumed it was a misspelling of the Congo we all know in central Africa. Little did I know this was an entirely different kingdom only partially linked to the modern version of the similarly named country. The Kingdom of Kongo represented the power of diplomacy, trade, and cultural exchange.
From the 14th to the 19th centuries, this thriving African state was a pivotal player in the complex web of global interactions. It was not only known for its robust trade relations with European nations but also for its early adoption of Christianity. This was an interesting one.
