The haul was enroute to Dubai and highlights persistent corruption
So we’ve been talking a lot about the wave of coups and power games in West Africa are causing major changes on the continent. After Gen Tiani seized power in Niger some months ago, his regime managed to oust insurgents the French military had been unable to after years in the country. One could only imagine the kinds of unchecked corruption that goes on in African nations under the watch of former colonial powers claiming to be there to ‘help’ us.
With this thwarted gold heist, it says a lot about the state of the continent.
